D-30 days... African football

Football (what Americans falsely refer to as 'soccer') is THE national continental past-time. You cannot be too young to play football here! Guys get together all the time to play; just whip up to baskets, block the street, get a flat ball and you are good to go!

On the ship we have some enthusiastic players coming from Austria, UK, Germany, Australia, Cameroon, Togo, Ghana, Benin and ..... surprisingly USA! Yes yes, not only that, but guess what? One of the American players in the AFM Team is a GIRL!!! :) Now that's what I call good team! Briggs, our coach is from Liberia and he tries to keep the team in good shape.

Recently we got challenged by a local phone company called Orange. The big game was on Sunday afternoon. By the time we got there there were a good couple of Landies with crew members getting ready for the game. Local spectators showed up in good numbers, too. Everything was given for a fun afternoon.

Montez, one of our Liberian crew members decided to run a full on commentary, making us all laugh for 2 hours.

Here are some of fun shots. Both Darren and I were taking pictures - I must say my hubby is a great photographer!

The final score was 4:3. We WON!!! Yay, good job, Team! You made us proud (and also miss dinner, but that's another story! :)

The AFM team with Miriam taking the picture. She is a player too, but was sick, so Tory could play!
